Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups - Legislative Issues

Prescription Drugs & Medicare Part D
The high cost of prescription drugs is a big burden on many seniors in Wisconsin and across the nation. The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups is advocating to ensure that programs like SeniorCare are maintained so seniors in the state of Wisconsin are assured the medications they need.  We're also working to help seniors find resources and programs that will save them money on their prescriptions.

Long-Term Care
The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups has long been a proponent of adequate funding for home and community-based long-term care and giving people more and better options for the where they receive long-term care services.

Other Programs and Services for seniors in Wisconsin
Wisconsin has some of the best programs and services for seniors in the state of Wisconsin such as the Elderly and Disabled Transportation Program, Benefit Specialist Program, Nutrition Program and many others.  We advocate at the state and federal levels of government to improve funding for these programs to meet the growing needs of seniors throughout the state of Wisconsin.

Guardianship Legislation
2005 Senate Bill (SB) 391 has passed both houses of the Wisconsin legislature, and was signed by the Governor on May 10.  It becomes effective on December 1, 2006.  The new law completely rewrite Wisconsin's guardianship statute.

Protective Placement Legislation
2005 Assembly Bill 785 was signed by the Governor in early April and goes into effect on November 1, 2006.  It is now known as 2005 Act 264.  The bill revises Chapter 55 of the Wisconsin Statutes which governs protective services and placement.

Adult Protective Services (APS) Modernization Legislation
2005 Assembly Bill 539 has passed both houses of the Wisconsin legislature, and was signed by the Governor on May 10.  It becomes effective December 1, 2006.  The new law modernizes the current adult protective services system by creating a parallel system for the reporting of abuse, neglect, exploitation and self-neglect of those under 60, as well as updating the current system for reporting elder abuse.
